Lake Ontario Pre-Fishing

Lake Ontario Update: First of all I just want to thank Frank Clark, http://www.profishingfrankclark.ca, for the entire experience including the knowledge and laughs we shared. He is by far one of the best anglers I have had the opportunity to share a boat with. During the three days we spent on the water preparing Frank for the Kingston Open we traveled 100's of miles in his Mercury powered Triton boat in both Canadian and American waters. The size and magnitude of that lake absolutely blew me away, you don't really know until your are out in the middle and take that second to look around and take it all in. The fishery is absolutely amazing and has every type of structure you could ever imagine from rocks to weeds and mainland shorelines to deep offshore shoals. All of these areas would hold fish which made finding productive big bass areas a daunting task ... but we were up for it! Many different techniques were utilized to find fish or rule out to aid in Frank's tournament success. Many different reaction baits were thrown to find fish and raise off of bottom for us to determine quality and quantity. For the more skiddish/knowledgeable/boat shy fish (most of them) finesse techniques were used. We found some high quality locations that I hope will aid Frank in winning the event. The weekend provided me with many different learning curves and my finesse fishing was humbled very quickly. I wasn't in Northern Ontario anymore ... finesse down south is at a whole different level, those fish have seen everything! In addition to modifying my finesse tactics; I learned more about reading graphs and electronics, how to drive a bass boat effectively at high speeds, finding subtleties in structure that separate one area from another and the worst and hardest thing I learned was how to NOT set the hook or catch the fish I saw. I was more than frustrated letting 5lb plus fish stay in the water when I knew I could of had a personal best on the end of my line over the weekend. I quickly remembered why I was there and left my selfish goal at home. This lead to many laughs throughout the weekend. Overall it was an amazing weekend that provided me with so much valuable information and a high level of respect for any aspiring or veteran tournament angler. It takes many sacrifices along with a mental and physical toughness to endure the long hours and hardships faced. You guys are fine tuned machines! Thanks again Frank and best of luck the rest of the week pre-fishing and more importantly this weekend in the tournament. Tight Lines Everyone!
