Paul Shibata’s angling accomplishments and credentials are many. He holds the title of Renegade Bass Classic Champion (2000) along with 21 Top-10 finishes from this prestigious tournament circuit. A fierce competitor, Paul’s tournament mantra is "chance favours the prepared mind". This fishing and life philosophy is obvious in his angling practise and tackle preparation but perhaps is best depicted in the meticulous rigging of his Princecraft Tournament Pro 198.

Participating in tournaments is but a small element of Paul’s involvement in the sportfishing industry. In fact it is often argued that he enjoys organizing events as much as competing in them. As one of the founding members of Renegade Bass and the current Executive Director of Marketing his efforts are obvious both on and off the water. Despite a full plate he still manages his time to serve as the National Spokesperson for G. Loomis Canada, and the bilingual education specialist for Lowrance, Simrad and Navionics.

Though he currently spends most of his domestic Air Miles competing in Bass Tournaments, At one point Paul was as likely to be found wading in flowing waters as he pursued salmonids with either his fly or float rods. Atlantics in Gaspe, giant Springs in BC or Steelhead everywhere in between captivated him during his formative years. He continues to develop his skills and teaching abilities in pursuit of his master fly casting credentials in both single and two hand.

Paul’s personal commitment to continuous improvement along with his formal scientific training (BScH, MSc, and PhD in Biology) often means he’s participating in product design, field-testing, and evaluation for sponsors. Self-described as having “a gift for the gab”, this bilingual 43-year-old also regularly delivers fishing seminars where his mix of humour, vast experience, and straight talk leaves listeners entertained and informed. His desire to share his experiences and knowledge can also be heard weekly on the Renegade Bass Fishing Show on the Team 1200 in Ottawa.

When he’s not involved in the sportfishing industry, Paul’s kept busy as President of Shibata Bio Consultants, an award-winning environmental consulting company. Yet, despite a long-list of sportfishing industry duties and the never-ending responsibilities of entrepreneurship, Paul never loses sight of his ultimate family commitments as father to two gregarious boys, Kyle and Evan.
