Serious Ice Fishing gone "bad"
ON
Feb. 3, 2012 2:07pm

Serious ice fishing gone bad .Hey for the record this is not me but my wife and fishing friends will tell you that I"ve done some crazy things all for the sake of chasing anything that swims and has fins .This ice angler is having a blast and has brought a new meaning to serious ice fishing and tip ups,hey but on a more serious note it wasn"t many years ago that many anglers got trapped on the ice on lake simcoe when the ice decided to shift and broke apart at the crack and sent these folks afloat on ice flows.Major rescue crews were dispatched and the anglers were slowly plucked off the luck there equipment alot of it stayed till it refroze together.
Lets take lake simcoe for a great example the ice has been really unsafe this year up till now there is still open water out there ,so my point here is keep in the back of your mind when journeying out to pursue anything that swims ,pay attention to these cracks ,maybe dont cross them ,remember on big bodies of water these cracks shift all the time ,there will be days they are tight and days they open two feet .So if your as crazy as I am make sure your prepared keep a cell phone charged with you ,ice picks ,axe or spud and if you have to journey across those cracks to get to the" holy grail" of fish it also wouldnt hurt to bring 2x8 planks to cross the crack or come back.Bottom line take precautions on big bodies of water there powerful. .
