On sunday, me and my buddy Zac headed out to scugog for try at some hardwater walleye and crappie. It was the first time for either of us fishing scugog. With a little knowledge, a friendly talk with the shop owner at causeway live bait, and some help from a fellow NPS member we headed out to try our luck. We walked out from Goreskis and using my buddy's graph, found some contours and depths to try out. We got to our first spot, punched a few holes to find 7' of water, under 10" of nice solid ice, dropped the camera down to find a few weeds scattered around.
We moved around quite a bit, drilled a ton of holes and fished from 5' to 11' of water. we did manage to find some good weed growth which gave us areas to target on our next trip out. The day was perfect, clear skies, sunshine, NO wind at all. Air temps were -10 degrees. The new gas auger my fiance got me for xmas was great. I think i cut more holes on sunday then i think i did all of last year! Everyone we talked to had pretty much the same thing to say, only caught dink perch and bluegill. Our day, was no different.
We managed to catch a bunch of fish, on a new body of water. So we cant complain. I got my first fish of 2012, i just didnt think it would be smaller then some of the minnows in my bait bucket! In all, we landed about a dozen perch, a dozen bluegill and one crappie about 10" long, perch were all 4-5 inches, and gills were all small, with the exception of 3 or 4 being decent sized. |
