This isnt so much a report, as it is just something to enjoy. If anyone of you have read my profile, you will have noticed that I have a family. I have a lovely, wonderful fiance, and 4 of the most amazing kids. My fiance, Ashley, is amazing. SHE LETS ME FISH! lol. But for real, she is great and allows me to go out pretty much all summer long to fish the many tournaments I enter, as well as just out fun fishing with friends. I'm lucky, she likes to fish too. My kids, 2 boys and 2 girls, have also taken to this great sport. My boys, 8 and 3 years old, LOVE to fish. My 3 year old, is literally a mini me!! My oldest girl, 6 enjoys fishing too. My youngest is only one.... but she loves to play with senkos.... and eat them too. lol
Anyone out there with kids, take them fishing! If you have then you know that watching them catch their first fish fills you with a sense of pride that trumps even your biggest bass.
Now, dont get me wrong.... fishing with kids... or the wifey, cant be beyond frustrating! Especially for me, the master of impatience. But, there are ways to make things easier for yourself. Dont give your kid a rod that 5 feet taller than they are. get them a small rod, easy to hold and use. I usually give my kids an ice fishing rod. They can handle it easy, but its still "a big boy fishing rod" like the one daddy uses. If you can get to an area where they can play as well, that can help. Kids have a short attention span. You have to keep them interested and occupied. Live bait can help, kids love worms and minnows. But if your like me, live bait is a pain and a hassle to use. Finding an area with lots of panfish is great. They are easy to catch, and are plentiful. You can use artificial bait for them as well, cutting out the live bait. Snacks and drinks are a must, and it never hurts having a portable DVD with scooby doo movies either!
So, get out and have some fun! You wont always catch fish, but you'll land some memories that will last forever! |
