The Deadly Chubby
small back lake ON
Jan. 11, 2012 12:21am

For those of you who've used the chubby darter through the ice you'll know what i'm talking about.
I recently took my friend Drew out fishing. He had his heart set on catching a natural lake trout through the ice for the very first time so I certainly obliged and took him to one of my favourite small lake trout lakes to guide on.

Traditionally speaking, Drew knew about grabbing gads, a spool of line, sending a minnow down, and walking away.

I had other ideas in mind to ensure a unique and very personal experience for Drew.

I knew we'd catch em so I wanted Drew's first time to be a little less traditional. More exciting if you will....... so I challenged him to catch one on an artificial lure. He took me up on my challenge and I introduced him to the chubby darter.
After 20 minutes it happened, yet another first on a Hooked Young fishing Charter.

I'd like to thank North Bay Outfitters in North Bay for giving me just a ton of SALMO CHUBBY DARTERS at my request. The owner of the shop, Tomas Gadomski is a major importer or the polish salmos and also a great guy and angler. Head on in if you get the chance their selection is incredible and so is the store itself. Just a ton of character especially for a relatively new store.

The Darters are a reliable and very welcome change from spoon type lures or the ever popular minnow. I certainly suggest adding them to the arsenal for a multitude of species.
There really is nothing like catching fish on artificials especially when they hit it like a ton of bricks and you set in right away. Its so exciting! and it saves you a trip to the bait shop for mins every time.
"follow me". Let me know you are, and who you are, that way I can follow you back or maybe if you get some time off we can go for a fish....until then I'm very happy to keep you posted on any and all things fishing. especially in the Muskokas, my home stompin ground ........ Grab some darters and shoot me a whats up!
go get em
