Canadian Kayak Anglers Event Wrap Up
ON
Aug. 29, 2012 9:38pm

Its a wrap!! This past weekend was the final CKA Cross Canada Tour event, The Hammond River Classic in New Brunswick. All of our events grew in 2012 and are looking good to grow again for 2013. The objective of all of the events is to bring together the community of kayak anglers and to get new anglers in kayaks in the hopes they love the sport as much as we do. Ultimately creating a good atmosphere for developing and sharing knowledge. Each event has a local dealer or two that bring out 'free' kayaks specific to fishing to be available for participants. You don't even need a kayak to participate! Pretty sweet!
**Prizes** Our events are well supported by kayak companies and each event has a kayak or two that they randomly give away using a raffle of sorts. Our sponsors are pretty awesome so for even the smaller events we are pretty loaded up with stuff to give away.

Our 2012 event listing included

New Brunswick - Hammond River Classic
This event is pretty cool. Its a river float where the anglers C-P-R multispecies. From eels to Sturgeon on kayak. The funds made from the event go directly to the Hammond River Angling Association. Its a great time for families and serious anglers to get together.

New Brunswick - NB Paddlers Fishing Derby
Another multispecies CPR event. This event is located near Fredericton and is another great family event. Anglers usually get 7 or 8 different species with some nice Chain Pikeral and Bass. Great fun!

Alberta - Eastslope Kayak Fishing Classic
This event is normally held on Glennifer lake near Red Deer but with the oil spill weeks before the event we made a location change. Event has you fishing Rainbows and Pike. Last year we had a couple 5 lb rainbows caught and this year was pretty awesome as well even with the change in location.

Ontario - Border City Classic
This event is one of the largest events in Canada so far and continues to grow annually. It is a good event for anglers in the medium to expert level. Guys get pretty competitive at this event and go after best 3 C-P-R Largies and smallies to create total length bags. The event draws anglers from as far as Toronto and across the pond in Michigan and Ohio. There is a friendly Can/Am competition and this year the Canadians won it. Super fun and well ran.

Over time we are going to spread out and start some new events and hopefully continue to grow the sport within Canada. If any of you have any questions or wish to take part in these events next year either as a volunteer or angler then please let me know.
Big thanks goes out to all our great sponsors and our great volunteers! To further see prize info, sponsors and local organizers please check out the individual event websites.
