Every time a Pro-Am is organized, it is always very popular among amateur anglers and a lot of them registered to fish these events. But not everybody has a chance to participate to such an event. I don’t know if it would be something that companies that have pro-staff working for them tell their Pros as a mandatory activity to take an amateur or two fishing with them at least twice a year. It doesn’t have to be during a event or during pre-fishing but just as it is convenient for the Pros. I think that it would be a good opportunity to initiate new anglers and to promote the company’s products at the same time and even more transmit the Pro’s knowledge to these newcomers. Let say that a company has 30-40 Pro-Staff, that make at least over a 100 new anglers sharing information and learning more about products.
That can be done at the Pros convenience, I already took three of my neighbors fishing this year and two of them had never hold a Baitcasting reel in their hand. They really enjoyed the experience. I think that could be a good learning tool offered by the company we work for. How many of you did some shows during spring and you get told by the customer that Baitcasting reelr allways got tangled. The usually had bought the reel from Canadian Tire or Wallmart and nobody was there to tell them how to use it. I know that you can find everything you want on internet but a one to one training is a lot more efficient. And that apply not only for reels but for all the products offered in the fishing industry. We all have our specialty and that can be shared all the time. For me I think it would be a great initiative from companies to put in place something like that.
I would like to get your feedback on this and who knows may be somebody will come up with a project that will be beneficial for everybody!

Thanks again for reading my posts !

I have been fishing with different anglers that are learning to fish
for fun and for tournaments. Many buy new equipment afterwards. I
beleive it is part of promoting my sponsors products that I just do it
on my own. As many Walleye tournaments consists of teams (friends)
fishing each event with one another, I have over the years fished them
with anglers just wanting to learn the sport. Just something that I
enjoy doing, watching the looks on their faces when we place.

Absolutaly that is my point David, But if the cie would mandatory
that kind of activities to their pro-staff I am sure we would get a
lot more people involved.

Well I'm new to the competitive front this year but definately not new
to fishing. I try to get out and teach as many new anglers as I can
every year. The pleasure of seeing someone hook into a lunker the
first time is awesome. I spend countless hours reading about fishing,
events etc and even I have a difficult time finding small events that
I can take friends too to get them interested. I think that a proper
tournament and Derby listing would be great that the average amateur
could visit to get involved. Such an online listing would help am's
meet pro's and get excited about the sport. The more am's can mingle
with pro's, the better in my eyes. I see a lot more functions like
this in the fly fishing industry. That's just my rant for what it's
worth.

I would have to say join a club and fish as a non boater to learn
more. I have fished as a non-boater at all levels from the FLW tour
Opens to a small 5 boat event and have fished as a PRO on the FLW
Everstart and BFL series. Fishing with a PRO can be great, however it
can also be very dissatisfying as some PRO's are so intent on fishing
that talking is an interruption of their fishing. I have taken many
non tournament fisherman out for a day and it can be a great
experience. I also take the youth club members out for their
tournaments. I don't think sponsors need to force PRO's to take other
interested fisherman out it should be an honor for PRO's to take out
AM's and to teach them. After all, isn't that what your sponsors are
already expecting from you, to promote their products when and where
ever possible?

@ SteveCrowley, might be the case in the US but in canada there aren't
as many Clubs.,

Another great post Stephane, its nice to see your topics, you seem to
always get people talking..

This is a great idea, I myself have always bought and recondition
fishing equipment, spending 100 to 300$ on a reel that I'm not 100%
I'm going to completely love is too much of a risk. Let's face it, in
a crowded room full of prostaff talking about there reels fails to
compare when you actually go out and try it.
This could mean some serious money in your sponsors pockets if they
had prostaff demonstrating the product and more importantly what makes
it a great product.
Instead like many anglers I've turned too the used market.

I've taken 8 different people fishing this year, showed them how to
use baitcasters and more importantly I've put 7 of them on fish.
The work you'll put in showing people the ropes and what it is to go
fishing reflects on the person and if you have sponsors w

That is what I am thinking too Shawn, With all the pro-staffs many of
them can find some time to get a one on one on the water. I am sure a
lot of people would be interested to go on the water to learn.

It is just a matter of knowing if the industry would come to a deal
with the Pro-Staff to encourage such an initiative.
