ABT Hybrid Shad made a slow day into a fun day!
Shade Mills ON
Aug. 19, 2012 10:54pm
I went out to a local resevoir to test out some work done on my boat this past week hoping my issues there were finally resolved. Thankfully they are! While I tested the livewell and other items out I just told my wife to not to worry about size or specie, just go out and have some fun. I gave her a senko and with in the first twenty minutes she had two nice 3lb Largies on. The only way they were hitting it though was when I went on the trolling motor and she was dragging it. I managed a couple of bass on a black worm . After the first hour things slowed right down but with it being late in the afternoon I was hoping for the evening bite.
Things were going slow and with there being more defined weed edges and the weeds being a couple of feet below the surface now I started to look at what else I had tied on my rods. I had a ABT Hybrid Shad Perch colour tied on and I love tossing crankbaits. I started casting and after playing with different retrieves I finally found what they wanted and the pike and bass just started hitting it like mad. I had a few on a very fast retrieve and some with a wind and pause method. The best and funniest part was when I hooked onto a 2" bass (no joke). I felt the hit as the lure stopped vibrating but then I felt no fight so I just thought I had a weed on. Thankfully for it, I wasn't convinced it was a weed and didn't try to rip it clean. After a few hours on the lake we decided to call it a day but we reached our goal to go out and have fun.
