Ice Fishing Tip #2 - Modern Technology on the ice!
Bay of Quinte ON
Dec. 20, 2011 6:56pm

Utilizing today's latest-and-greatest technologies has allowed anglers to set new standards when it comes to catching more and bigger fish...especially through the ice!

The Navionics iPhone App has become a (big time) game-changer for my ice fishing outings! Combining the App with a flasher, seems to be the one-two punch needed to land TROPHY Quinte eyeballs..... and lots of them!

In a nutshell, the Navionics app allows anglers to dial-in on specific structure that fish are using. For example, the App allows you to see specific transition points (in many cases flats with adjacent drop offs), where anglers believe fish will be throughout the day. Once a location starts producing fish, but the bite slows down...don't worry because with a simple touch of the screen you can quickly and easily scan kilometers of shoreline in search of similar spots elsewhere on the Bay. When you start finding similar locations that produce fish.....you've established a pattern!

Once the pattern is established and similar locations are marked, you can then use the App to get down and dirty and dial-you-into the "spot on the spot" to really start laying a beating on some Quinte GOLD!!

For example, in the above picture you can see how I have utilized the zoom feature and marked specific spots along structure at various depths. More importantly I'm able to target the transition points from the channel up to a pair of large flats. Basically, I am intercepting the fish going up & down from the channel to the flats to feed!     BINGO!

Tie on those Northland Macho Minnows and Buckshot Rattle Spoons, and hang on because you're about to go toe-to-toe with some Quinte heavyweights!
