A long awaited trip for my dad and I as I was supposed to take him out for farthers day and the weather did not permit it. We had tried a few other times as well and no luck with mother nature. Storms and high winds just would not allow us to get out, and of course both of our schedules meeting up too. So this morning I took my Dad out for some bass on Lake Huron. All Photos taken for my iPhone with Lifeproof case on it, I got a couple cool videos I will share as well.
We were using 1/16 oz jig head, black and charteuse, and Berkley Gulps and Powerbaits added to them. It did not take us long to pin point some bass on rocky shoals. Dragging our jigs across the top of rocks and picking up smallies. Most of the bass were from 2-3 lbs, with the biggest weighing in at 4.3 lbs and my dad got another 4 lber as well, not to mention the ones that got away of course. We had a great morning fishing these brawling greenbacks. Being from the big lake we got bass of all sizes and colours. Green , brown and almost black, with some really nice spots.
Being August and getting cold nights already these fish are starting to stage for the fall. Feeding heavily on crayfish, gobies, sculpins, and what ever else is down there that they can get there mouths on. Once we hooked one fish, two or three would follow up, curious of the bite and destroying anything that was being spit up. Keeping an eye on every fish we caught was important, if any followers were seen we would toss in a bait right behind the fish, if possible, and double up. My father and I must of had 6 double headers this morning, landing 26 bass in 2 hours and 20 minutes. If we were not observant to "the followers" we would not of boated as many bass.
You just can not beat getting out fishing with your old man, or any family member for that matter. Fishing is our passion and it must be shared with everyone. Make sure you teach your kids to fish, and get them out fishing. Once they are hooked, they are hooked for life. I thank my dad for taking me out every monday when I was young, and every other day he did. It sparked a huge passion for me, and I just can't get enough now.
Thanks Dad! |
