Walleye or Pickerel
PQ
Aug. 13, 2012 12:41pm

I was watching a fishing show on TV this weekend and the anglers were catching as for me were Walleyes but they were calling them Pickerels. I started reading on the net and now I am very confused. Is a pickerel a yellow walleye or is it part of the PIke familly !!??? I am very confused !

Yellow Pickeral and walleye are the same fish! Chain pickeral look
more like a pike.

Steve hit it right on the nose. Poir to the PWT most anglers in Canada
called a Walleye a Pickerel. Since then we learned that the Pickerel
was part fo the Pike family. Still today I hear once in awhile a
Walleye still being called a Pickerel by some anglers in the North.

Chain Pickerel are deffinately different but depending on where you go
the locals may call a walleye pickerel.
