Amazing Trip to the NWT part 1
Great Bear Lake NT
Aug. 10, 2012 9:34am

Well I was very fortunate to win a contest which the grand prize was an all expense trip to Plummers lodge in the NWT. We flew Air Canada out of Toronto to Calgary. After a 2hr delay in Calgary due to weather we are now off to Yellowknife. We land in Yellowknife tired and ready for bed to go to the hotel. We tell the shuttle bus person we are here and just have to collect our luggage. The airport is small and greas you with a Polar bear for the luggage rack. We get alll our luggage and wait for our over sized baggage which are our FISHING RODS to come out. No Rods on board!!!! Wow was I more than a little mad at the situation especially telling the individual in Toronto baggage that these 2 rod tubes had to go on the plane 3 times!!! We went down to Air Canada to see where our rods are and they were still in Toronto as they never were put on the plane. It looks like we may not get them for our trip as our flight leave at 8am this morning for Plummers and its 2:30am right now. Next flight for our rods would be next day late.
Well now after that brutal experience we go to get the shuttle bus driver and get to the hotel for 3 hrs sleep before we have to get up. He left us with no one else at airport except 2 employees (ouch). Called the hotel and asked what happened with driver and he said that his shift was over so he left and there are no more drivers for the night. GREAT Really???. We see 1 cab driving away and we flag him down and get a ride to the hotel .
I get to bed around 3:30am and up and downstairs for 7:00am as we are to picked up for 7:30 and to the airport for 8am by the Plummers people. When the Plummers rep arrived she announces that the plane has broken down and that they are trying to find 2 other planes to get us to the lodge but there will be more delays. Told them about our rods and she said they would do what they could but more than likely not make it for the week of fishing but the lodge has lots of rods to use there. We get to the airport and wait, wait, wait, after delays. Finally they call my ticket and a plane is in sight. I go up to the boarding area and then get told that this plane is not for my ticket but for other guests and that the call out was a mistake and our plane would be anothe 29 - 30 min delayed. Well the plane finally arrives at Yellowknife and gets us to Plummers Lodge which has its own gravel air strip to land on. What a start to this trip?? Was it going to be worth it??? As soon as I got off the plane and looked around at this amazing place I knew it was going to be great. Here are some pics of the lodges and surrounding areas, the plane etc.

PART 2 WILL ALL BE FISHING AND CLOSING COMMENTS.

Looking forward to Part 2 Blake. All those delays and mishaps were
designed to get you ready to slow down, relax, and enjoy your trip as
it looks like a beautiful place to chill and just catch BIG FISH.
