If I had only two rods and two baits to throw on clear water lakes in August;
The first would be a top water bait in the a.m. till the sun got up good or until the bite shut off (Sometimes that top water bite lasts well into the day).
The second would be a shakey head or darter head worm.
One trick is to understand which action they want, the fast, random action of a darter head or the slow fall or crawling action of a shakey head or round head.
The darter head is a pointy, bullet shaped jig head. When you lift it, it darts back down and never falls the same way twice
The Shakey head or round head jig is good for slower up and down or crawling action.
I like to paint most of my jig heads.
Tip: Rig Texas style in weeds or wood. Rig open hook in rocks and flats or when the fish pick it up but don't want to eat good.
Tip: Use a high floating plastic. Then the bait will stand up and you will get way more bites.
Baits: The picture shows my favorite custom baits and colors. If you would like to order some just tell Derek that Michael authorized NPS anglers to order his 4" and 5" mini senko. Please reference this article. Derek Rader can be reached at (562) 714-2485 or (208) 369-0750 or raderbaits@msn.com. |
