Lake Muskoka 2012

Well it was really nice to get our first tounament win this year. We spent two days of practice leading up to the tournament and found the fishing to be extremely tough. We would have been lucky to have 7lbs both days. Tournament day started the same way and found the fishing really tough again. We had two small keepers at 10 am and decided to go fish a deep hump in the middle of the lake. We caught two fish on the hump almost immediately, one that was 3.1lbs and the other was 2.75lbs and then the bite died completly. We then decided to go back to our number one spot at about 11am with 4 keepers weighing about 8lbs. We struggled for about 1 1/2hrs getting nothing and then decided to try going real shallow rememberring three years ago that going shallow in the early afternoon got us a win. We got to about 2.5 feet and started fishing. Almost immediateley we caught a 3lb fish. We then went about another 20 mins and bam caught another fish weighing about 3.4 lbs. We quickly realized our call to go shallow was going to pay off. It was now about 1:30 and knew we had about 1 hr of fishing left leaving us 1/2 hr to get back to the weigh in area. We went about another 1/2 hr and caught another 3lb fish and figured if we could get another one in the 3lbs range, we would have a chance. We went another 1/2 hr with nothing and just as we were getting ready to pack up, bam another fish that weighed 3.5 lbs. We figured we now had around 15lbs and had a slight chancing of winning with that weight. It usually takes about 17lbs to win Lake Muskoka but, we knew the lake was fishing real hard right now and had a chance.

Once we arrived at the weigh station, we were quickly told that there was a two way tie for first place with both teams weighing in at 15.25lbs. We knew we had right around the 15lbs range and would need a little luck to get us over the 15.25 lbs. We joined the line as our hearths ponded knowing it was going to be real close. Our turn came and the scale locked in at 15.30 lbs giving us a win by a mere .005lbs. We been on both sides of close calls like this but were glad in tipped in our favor.
