CSFL BM100 on Sparrow Lake
Sparrow Lake, Gravenhurst Area ON
Jul. 30, 2012 2:17pm

On Saturday my partner Mike Brayford and I fished the Bassmania BM 100 at Sparrow Lake. Both of us have been fishing that lake since we were kids and it is without a doubt our favourite. It can be stubborn though at times and this was definitely the case in the tournament. Due to time constraints neither of us could get any pre-fishing in beforehand so we had to go in based solely on our knowledge of the lake. With the high bluebird sky and warm weather we figured the bass would be up shallow, right where we like to fish but that didn’t end up being the case. We couldn’t find any up tight in the slop. Our fish seemed to be positioned off of rock weed transition areas, not unlike our experiences in most of the other lakes we have been fishing this year. The majority came on a flipping jig with a lunkerhunt spicy dragon trailer and a weightless lunkerstick. Even though we couldn’t catch the bass where we normally would, we ended up landing enough for a third place finish. A bit of a heartbreaker for us too, as the fish that would have put us over the top threw the jig ten feet from the boat with five minutes to go in the tournament. Well you know what they say… that’s fishing eh! It was a lot of fun though and thanks again to the CSFL crew for holding the event, Lauderdale Point Resort for having us and my dad for lending me his boat so we could compete in the under 115hp event. Looking forward to next year there!
