Bait Used: Crawler
Today it felt like it was raining walleyes on the St Marys River. This was a personal best for me on this system. Today I was alone on the boat but I was able to land over 40 walleyes on this system. If anyone knows the St Marys system they would agree that this is an amazing day. I didn't get allot of big eyes but my 5 fish weight for today would have been around 24 lbs. Biggest eye today was 24 inch and the smallest eye today was a 17 inch. I am going to remember this day for a long time because all conditions were perfect: cloudy, windy, cooler temp and lots of current. The key to today was utilizing many different techniques. Today I did everything from jigging to boarding to bottom bouncing to lead core. The common denominator was the fact I used a crawler on all setups. I did try some artificial baits but didn't produce like the live crawler did. Some days plastics work well.
The best producer was running boards with #6 Colorado blades smelt pattern. This is my favourite for this system. A close second was using lead core with #6 colorado blades in strong current. Jigging a 1/2 oz jig tipped with a full crawler worked great too. Had lots of pics but these turned out the best. Threw a smallie pic in too because I lost count on how many nice smallies i caught. The Sault should host a smallmouth tourney. I would bet a winning weight for 10 smallies over 2 days could be around 33-35 lbs. Nobody really fishes for them here. Pics from this morning had a glare issue. Can't wait to get back out there again. Stay tuned for more walleye tips
