Patience and Giants are good buddies
Great Slave Lake NT
Jul. 19, 2012 3:32am

Reel Used: ABU GARCIA REVO WINCH
Rod Used: BERKLEY MUSKIE TACTICS
Line Used: SPIDERWIRE FLUOROBRAID
Bait Used: SEBILE 190 KOOLIE MINNOW
Out here, for giants, its all about easy to grab. Those big guys, which could be 50 years old, or older, have seen spoons and seen baits over and over; in the end, they are all about minimal energy expended with maximum benifit. I'm constantly throwing my trolling boat into neutral in over a hundred feet of water. It slows the presentation down and also allows the bait to dive a little deeper with a 4 ounce weight attached to the mainline about 4 feet off the bait. Those big guys see it, and say: "hey! thats easy to grab, om nom nom". Seconds later your fighting a 30 pound trout for up to 20 minutes. It's an unbelievable experience for lakers in July. My new guests, Don and Dan, have great techniques and even better patience. Today we caught over 50 trout but the big kicker was our 8 pound average. In Great Slave, most often patience pays off. At one point Dan and I both thought we had one over 40 pounds hooked. It ended up being a 40 inch fish with a giant head and small body weighing in at 25 pounds even. Certainly not a disapointment. Here he is in all his elderly glory. I gave him a kiss and sent him back to the depths.

Thanks for using the same gear. I'm telling you with no reserve that it works better than anything else you could ever bring. Berkley, Spiderwire, and Sebile; without these brand names especially we would have never overcome giant fish after fish today with unwaivering action and ultimate reliability. Lakers in great slave, especially 6 to 15 pounds will test your gear like no other. Let me tell you, the Berkley and Sebile combo especially, teamed up with 30lb spiderwire fluorobraid, stands up to the test. Consistancy is a big factor here and without these key elements we wouldn't be having such good days.
Nearly zero break offs, over 50 fish in 6 hours, two being over 20 pounds; our gear was tested. In the end, We came out on top. Scope the pictures and check out Frontier fishing lodge in the Northwest Territories. One of the most obvious lake trout capitols of the world.

Thanks again for following and for using the quality products supplied by Pure Fishng.
