Yesterday was the CNIB 20th Annual Fishing Derby which was held on Porcupine Lake in Timmins Ontario. The CNIB holds this tournament every year to raise funds for the Children with vision loss. The event was covered by the local media (MCTV), and the Local Press. The Timmins Kiwanis Club donated the raffle prize which was a fourteen foot Legend boat with a 9.9 four stroke Mercury outboard motor on a EZ Load trailer. Raffle tickets sold for ten dollars each. There was also a raffle table full of prizes for those interested in buying tickets for as well. It was a great time. I volunteered along with Dan Ethier as offical weigh measures in which we had some good laughs when the kids had to bring their fish and place it in the measuring trough. Priceless to see their faces to say the least as Dan and myself made every fish sound like a monster fish to them.
Vanessa Holopained, chair person for the event said the event was a success and was very pleased with what they had raised for the CNIB. Vanessa wanted to thank all the volunteers for their had work along with Pipes and Panels (1st Place) and Manitoulin Transport (3rd place) for sponsorsing the prize money in both the Pike and Walleye divisions. Thanks goes out to the local media for covering the event, the MNR, St. Johns Ambulance for coming out and everyone that helped to make this event happen.
In the Pike Division 1st place went to Bill Smith, 2nd Terry Gagain, and 3rd Dominic Fortin. In the Walleye Division 1st went to Dan Dembremont, 2nd Dominic Fortin and 3rd Gabby Kioki. Included in the picture of the anglers is NDP leader Gillies Bisson. The raffle winner of the new Legend boat with 9.9 four stroke motor and EZ-Load trailer was Ken Whalen.
Looking forward to next years CNIB Derby again. Great job everyone to make this a fun and safe event.
