Every year my wife and I go to Sandy Shore Cottages, a resort on Rice Lake for a week of relaxation and awsome fishing and so does a group of friends from the states. They have been coming to the same resort for even longer on the same weeks as well and it's always good times when everyone is there. At least once during the week several of us will go out on the pontoon and fish and have some laughs. Well this year I am unable to go but wanted to still get up and fish with Phil as this coming week will be very busy with the large group coming up for Bill's 60th B-Day.
Phil and I set out on the pontoon on Friday moring around 6:20am and headed for a spot he had been to earlier in the week. They were hitting first thing in the morning and we were catching some on senkos and the ABT Banshee 4.5". Nothing huge at the time but fun regardless! Once the sun was fully out and you could feel the heat the fish headed tight to cover and were a little more harder to catch. We then moved around the corner and tried a very effective spot usually but this year with the weather we have had it's throwing curve balls as that area is usually pretty thick with weeds on the surface and this year hardly any. We decided after a couple of drifts to head another spot before calling it a day and glad we did.
When we got to the next spot Phil dropped the anchors and on his first cast hooked up to a nice bass. He didn't feel the bite, but when he lifted the rod it took off. It started to wrap around some logs and then it did a jump on one side of the log and over. I thought it was over but it actually un-wrapped and then fought all the way to the boat. It finally was worn out and we were able to land it and take a couple of photos and release it back to the same spot. I will admit I would have loved that on the end of my line but was very happy for him to catch such a beauty!! The good part I was able to get a photo with my iphone and emailed it to him right away as the guys wouldn't believe him if he didn't have that photo to prove it..lol. So when they get there he can rub it in a little.
I hope this week is a good week for them all and they have tons of fun which I am sure they will being here in Ontario on Rice Lake
