Just a ton of lakes get stocked with brook trout every year. Some are listed on stocking sheets and some aren't. The key for me to consistantly catch the big ones that some people only dream of seeing, is to venture to the older lakes I know have been stocked for say 10 years or more...... Giant brook trout can be difficult to catch but they are holding in these lakes hard and in alot of cases even feeding on newly stocked brook trout invading their space. I count on canabalism! Especially where wild and stocked brook trout exist together. RAPALA makes two unreal original floating minnows in BT and BTR, Brook Trout and Brown Trout!
These ALWAYS come with me and I have 6 brookies in the last two years flirting with, or over five pounds to show for it casting to structure and using them like jerk baits........
Toss a brookie at a brookie!
I haven't kept a single giant though either! catch and release practices help too...maybe your 5 pounder will turn into an 8 and you'll see it again! or some other lucky angler will.. I always just take a bunch of pics and send em back. Let em go and let em grow! the little ones taste better anyway.... |
