Born A Fisherwoman
Newcastle, Ontario ON
Jun. 3, 2012 11:22am

Hi fellow NPS family & fisherman/woman,

My name is Sarah Delyea. I'm 22 years old living in Newcastle, Ontario. I'm beyond excited and extremely ecstatic to be apart of a well established NPS family. What a great idea it is, to get people from all around Canada & the US to come together and share stories, experiences, tips & photos of the life of a fisherman/woman.

I can honestly say that I'm proud to be the daughter of a talented fisherman/outdoorsman, Steve Delyea. I feel rather lucky to be brought up by such a talented man. My dad breathes and lives for fishing & the outdoors. He has taught me everything that I've had to learn from putting a worm on my hook to the knowledge of operating a boat, graph and learning the rules & legislation of being a fisherwoman.

I truly believe that fishing was born in my blood. I've been fishing all of my 22 years. On march 13, 1990, my dad was gifted with a baby girl & from the time he put me into his arms, he knew he was going to raise a fisherwoman to be just like him. The time spent with my dad as a baby, I was learning how to fish before I could even talk. There isn't too many fathers out there that take their baby girl or boy in a Jimmy truck onto Lake Scugog with a play pen full of toys & blankets in the back of the truck while he had tip ups set up all around the truck. As soon as I can hold my micky mouse rod in my hand I was hooked. I knew fishing was going to be one of my passions. I had no fear of baiting that hook at such a young age. I just couldn't wait to get off school and jump in the truck & head out on a fishing adventure. I was his little multi-species fishergirl. I managed as I became a little older, to become the youngest female pro bass & walleye anglers on the circuit with a couple 1st places & top ten wins. My father motto that he taught me from the start was "if it has fins & it swims, I'm in" and ill never forget that. Not only was my main target of fish: bass, walleye, muskie, & crappies for all the Kawartha Lakes, but my father also taught me to versatile and change it up and go for brook trout, lake trout, whitefish & pike.

For me, fishings so much more than just going out there & catching fish. Every fishing adventure as a kid & now as a adult is learning experience. A big reason as to why I love fishing so much is, its very relaxing. Nothings more relaxing than sitting on the water, away from everything, birds chirping, fish jumping, turkeys gobbling from shore and your only focus is to catch fish. We all have days, where we go out on the water & may not catch anything at all. But whats the most important to me Is that time spent on the water with my dad all day is a bonding experience. Nothing has brought me closer to my dad than fishing itself. You remember the laughs, the lessons, the experience of losing that monster fish that's what most Important to me. And that goes for everything else, sure you may not catch fish, but think of all the memories your creating with that person, I guarantee you'll have a story to tell on every adventure to people when you come home.

I just want to take the time to thank Dan Miguel & partner for giving me the opportunity to joining the National Pro Staff team. I feel blessed to be apart of such a amazing creation. I also liked to thank my father, Steve Delyea for teaching me everything he knows passing it down to me. I certainly wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for my father. He is my biggest role model in life. Not only do I still consider every fishing adventure a learning experience, but now I'm able to pass down my knowledge to the people that share the same Passion. I hope I've inspired fisherman, kids, newcomers, but most importantly, the girls & woman out there. Never doubt yourself or say girls can't catch fish, cause let me tell you, I started somewhere & look at me now, us woman can catch fish! We always have the lady's luck. The fishing industry for woman is growing rapidly over the past years & its great to see! We have a huge place in this world being fisherwoman, an inspiration to all. I cant wait to meet new fisherman/woman from different places around Canada & the US and their techniques. Your never to old or to skilled to stop learning. I hope you guys have enjoyed my article, thanks for taking an interest in reading it, hopefully you will follow me and We can share stories, pics & adventures. I can't wait to begin my adventure on NPS.
