Chasing Trophy Crappie....
ON
Jun. 1, 2012 4:22pm

Though it is almost time to switch gears to Carp and Lakers I had to give the Crappie a few more looks! One fish has always eluded me, a 15" Crappie. It still does but man have we been on some real Slabs this spring! I've also had the pleasure of having some of my best buddies along side me in the boat for this action!

One thing I did this year was upsize my baits. Those 1 inch tubes are no longer even in my Crappie box. 2 to 2 1/2" tubes are all that I will be using from now on when I plan to use a tube jig. Another killer setup has been a 1/32 oz Nuckleball Jig teamed with a Zoom 2 inch minnow.

For rods I've been using a Medium Action Shimano Clarus, a Sienna 500 reel and 6 lb test mono. Ultralites just don't cut it with these Slabs in the weeds.

Gotta love the Slabs!
