A long time client of mine was lucky enough to be back home from his 21 days on, working in camp, out in Alberta. Ken is quite the guy. I think he dreams about fish almost every night and may even spoon with his fishing rod from time to time. He's a great guy and has recently become absolutely hooked. With all the tournaments going on, He'd asked me what it was like to fish one. I told him it was a riot! Very competitive and tons of fun. He only had the one day to fish though so I told him we'd fish exactly like we would in a tournament.Just he and I. After I explained the rules, We blasted off in search of the five biggest pike we could fit into the livewell.
With an overcast day and excellent fishing temperatures on my home waters - in total we ended up catching just a TON of fish. We lost a for sure count and a few fish right at the boat but it must have been close to thirty pike in total. What a riot. Ken is even more hooked now.
So, at the end of our tournament the horn blew and we headed into the docks for the weigh in. Wouldn't you know it! We had fans! Just one, Ken's girlfriend waiting for us on the dock.
I parked the boat, measured our five, and got the 10cm live release bonus on each fish.
Our score was a whopper at 442. What a day. I explained to Ken that if this had been a real tournament, during normal hours, we would have done really well....like really well. He was excited and is anxious to try one for real at his earliest opportunity.
Most of our spooky fish were caught using Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon teamed up with a titanium leader. My reel of choice is the Abu Garcia Revo Toro Winch on the Berkley Musky Tactics 6'6. The Gold Sebile Magic swimmers are unreal on that set up. You don't jerk them like a jerk bait I find; just a steady slow retrive, and STOP IT-- right near the boat------ BOOM!
Thanks Ken for the tournament training session and thanks Pure Fishing for giving me the quality products that ensured confidence and a good fish.
Yours in pike slime
Tom Waldock

Great fish, Tom. It's a warming feeling when you get someone
"addicted". Maybe, if timing permits, you could both fish a real
tourney together. Thanks for sharing.
