Taking a kid fishing - Part two
Ok let's do a recap; you've left your rod at home, you're on your favorite body a water, you have all the ice fishing rods for all the kids, their spooled up with four pound test, a slip bobber, small jighead and your favorite Lunkerhunt micro bait, now it's time to take the kids fishing!
First things first practice what you preach, please, put on your life jacket! It takes two seconds to put one on, to save your life!
When you go out with the kids keep it simple, go fishing for pan fish, not the lunker that you been searching for. Make it exciting for them. When they catch a fish make a big deal of it, like they've just caught the biggest fish in the world. What I'm gonna say next you'll think I'm completely crazy, bring the kids in when the fishing is hot! Only keep them out there for 30 to 45 minutes max. If you bring them in when fishing is hot, they will be hooked for life. If you keep them out there when fishing is slow, they will get bored and they will lose interest. When fishing is slow make an adventure of it, pack a lunch and a whole lot of snacks. Go to an island or walk the shoreline, explore it. Point out birds or any other wildlife that might be around, lift up rocks and see what kind of critters might be living underneath it. Make it fun for them.
The whole thing about bringing kids fishing is to make lasting memories and enjoy the outdoors. I've got two children of my own, I have a six year old son and a three year old daughter. My six year old and I have been doing a father and son fishing trip for four years now. This year me on my daughter are gonna be doing our first father and daughter fishing trip. So all I ask, is do yourself a favor and bring kids fishing. We are not just building a sport we are building a future! |

Great Report Chris, My daughter is 22 and still wants to get out for a
fish and still talks about our fishing trips from when she was little.
