Shallow Crappies!
Kawarthas ON
May. 7, 2012 7:08am

Hit one of my favourite lakes on Saturday with a couple co-workers and went to work in the deeper water. After plucking one here and one there for a while, we needed to make a change. Had a quick chat with one of my club members on the water then headed up shallow to have a peak. Lots of dead water, but once we found them, they were in pretty thick and several were locked down on nests. With the water so clear and shallow, light line, and a stealthy approach were neccessities. The sound of a float hitting the water would spook the fish, so we switched to a small dropshot rig to get them and it was a good decision. No real brutes on Saturday but lots of good fish. Sunday, after receiving an early morning text from fellow Fishbum pro staffer, Callum Johnson, we decided to hit it again. Right to that spot again and never left it. Was a good number of boats in by Sunday, and it made them SUPER skittish, but as it goes with bed fishing, you can make them go if you exercise patience. Got some much better fish Sunday.
