Florida Report
Marco Island FL
Apr. 28, 2012 12:08pm

Hello to all,

Had another great trip to South Florida with my Buddy Steve! Conditions were not on our side with high winds and dirty water but we still had some great days of fishing. We only managed to get one day offshore which we made the best of fishing wrecks with XRaps for Jacks, Mackeral and busting gear and body parts trying to land Goliath Grouper(Jewfish) in the 50-300 lb range. At the end of that day Steve put me right in the middle of 3 acres of rolling Tarpon that were having a great time driving me crazy as always! Never managed to get one but did land a nice Black Tip Shark that we thought was a Tarpon, still fun.
Had the opportunity to put the new Shimano Teraz Saltwater rods to the test and what can I say, wow! As we expect from Shimano, rods were light and and yet still incredibly powerful sticks capable of pulling large Snook and Reds out of docks with ease!

Our backwater days were spent skipping tubes and Trigger X Shrimp/Swimbaits and live minnows under Mangrove trees and docks in the 10,000 Islands area south of Marco Island. While doing that we landed lots of Snook, Redfish, Trout and Jack Crevalle.

Another great trip under my belt in my quest to land a Tarpon! As they say there's always next year! Thanks to my Brother-in-law Steve for takin me fishing for the week in conditions that were better suited to working at times.

Lots of video footage to get through, will post soon!

Cheers,

Derek
