I love to see that more and more girls are getting into the sport these days- and not only getting into it, many are getting hooked! In some cases even smoking the guys when it comes to competition... I think alot of girls simply dont go fishing or start because they haven't grown up with it, they haven't been introduced to it, they don't have any gear, or maybe the guys they know that fish have never asked them!
Don't get me wrong sometimes I need to covertly head into the bush solo but I've been taking my girlfriend and her friends more and more. And they love it! Obviously it takes a certain kind of girl to brave the harsh conditions at times and not every girl can be as amzing on the water as Ashley Rae or April Vokey for example but thats not to say that just a ton of girls you know aren't into the adventure of fishing. I've seen quite a few girls out fishing for the first time with me on charters this past summer and I've found most of them, once introduced to the sport, are just as avid and in some cases even more concentrated and competitive than the guys. If you want to get some girls you know into fishing, and its their first time ever, I suggest you make sure the weather is good for the first time and you take them to a spot you know you'll catch lots.... Combine the nice atmosphere with some fish in the boat and who knows you might spawn the next Fishergirl. If not, atleast you offered!
If its on the ice, with the season upcoming, remember girls circulation can sometimes be worse than guys so they get colder quicker- but also I've found they don't like being too bulky even if they're warm. So survival suits are out sometimes. Long johns and under armor are key! Under the rest of the warm winter attire. Warm, and easy to move in..... good waterproof boots, mits, and scarves are important too..... Hands and feet usually get cold first! Keep em warm, and show them where you run off too all the time and maybe they'll at the very least grasp your obsession..Dont leave your girl at home every time thats just asking for trouble. TAKE HER FISHING!
