TO Waterfront Issue Up-date
Toronto Waterfront ON
Apr. 3, 2012 12:30am

Looks like our efforts are making waves and garnering results! Since the last report that I had posted:

-Toronto Star reporter Emily Jackson dug further and wrote a follow-up article with her findings! http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1152772--anglers-free-to-fish-at-ontario-place

-I was a guest on the Outdoor Journal with Angelo Viola, Jack summers and John Winters to talk about the matter and to raise more awareness of this problem!

-*MOST IMPORTANTLY, the Toronto Port Authority issued a very positive press release and has initiated a dialogue with all concerned stakeholders. There will be a meeting later this week which I will attend and discuss possible solutions with the Toronto Port Authority, City of Toronto, Harbourfront Centre, Ontario place and the MNR. They go as far as they say that they would entertain hosting a fishing derby this summer on the waterfront! This is a amazing step forward in a short period of time! http://www.torontoport.com/About-TPA/Media-Room/Press-Releases/Toronto-Port-Authority-Supports-Toronto-Area-Fishi.aspx

- Unfortunately I missed it but I was informed that CP24 also did a feature on this issue with another angler who was stopped from fishing on the TO waterfront!

We are definitely making great strive towards reaching a resolution! Thanks to everyone for all their support, we're all in this together!

This is great news David. It is nice to see the advancements that have
been done. Cobourg could certainly learn something from this. If I
may, Cobourg is having a review on their Parks Master Plan, they don't
even have fishing listed as an activity to do in parks! Right now they
have an on-line survey and I am asking as many people as possible to
take the time and fill it out. Plain and simple, Fishing should
continue in the Cobourg harbour! Here is the link for anyone
interested.

Nicely done, Dave!! I was surprised when I read your initial post
about this issue. It just seems so wrong that such an accessible
piece of shoreline is being denied to so many of the people who wish
to enjoy it, particularly in a city where green space and fresh air is
such a commodity.
