I recently had a great finish at the 2014 Cabelas Collegiate Big Bass Bash held at Paris Tennessee. I managed placing 15th out of 200 some anglers and my partner from college placed 56th at the event. I used the Navionics App for my IPad with the Nav+ purchased which gives you the freshest data and unlocks the SonarCharts to create a game plan for my prefishing days on the lake. We ended up marking a nice road bed with ditches on each side of it not too far from the ramp and during practice we pulled over 50 fish off of it. I was throwing a combination of the Bomber squarebill and a shakeyhead. The fish positioned in the different ditches depending on the direction of the wind which made the spot almost fool proof. The first day I weighed in a small largemouth that weighed 1.99lbs which for it being a big bass event was really small. That was all the major action that day but I ended up taking a big gouge out of the bottom of my boat running in the channel, still to this day have no idea what I hit. The second day we pulled up to the same road bed the water was like glass and we were the only boat at this spot which seemed odd. We fished the whole length of the road bed pulling shorts out until I laid into a 5.44 lb largemouth which I weighed in Day 2 Session 2 taking 3rd place in that weigh in slot. My partner about 200 yards down the road caught a 4.11 lb largemouth which he weighed in Day 2 Session 1 and just got bumped out of money finishing in 9th for that weigh in slot. That was the majority of our action that day and at the conclusion of the event I found out my fish put me 15th overall and his fish put him 56th overall causing our national ranking to jump from 73rd in the Nation to 20th in the Nation going into the last major event which is the 2014 Boat US Collegiate Championship held on Pickwick Lake May 16-23rd in Florence Alabama!! We have the ability with a solid finish to break into the top 10 for the year!!
