With ice fishing season closing March 31st on Lake Winnipesaukee I headed out with a group of friends to get into some white perch and maybe lake trout. I picked up a couple of lakers early and then things quieted down...temporarily. We had a nice sunny start to the day which made for some nice scenery and even allowed us to have our jackets off. When we noticed thick cloud cover approaching we noted that the bite may turn on. Boy were we right! It was like someone flipped a switch. As soon as the cloud cover moved over us, the white perch moved in under us. The fish were so thick at some points that the auto range on our Vexilar FLX-28s kept readjusting. We caught well over 100 fish and they were some of the biggest this season. We caught all of our fish in 30' of water. and most were caught on a white/red Epoxy Drop form Clam Pro Tackle. There wasn't much to it on this day. The schools were huge and the perch were hungry. Throw in a few small lake trout and you've got a pretty good day.
