Predator Kayak Crappie

The temperature hasn't started dropping like I was hoping it would at this time. We are still seeing 80 degree days most days. I have been champing at the bit for the crappies to start schooling over deep basins. I headed out in my kayak with a photographer in tow the other day hoping that the shorter days would be enough to trigger some basin schooling. Just to be certain, I fished my way from shallow toward the middle of a specific basin that always holds fish in the fall. I was dragging the Vexilar Sonarphone so that I could see if there were fish suspended and what depth. I never marked or saw a fish until I hit the 25' mark. The fish were cruising around the outer edge of the basin with a high concentration on the down wind side. A few drifts later and the fish were dialed in with two or three on every drift and lots of great photos. I was hoping for some really good sunrise photos, but there wasn't a cloud in the sky. We still managed some great photos since there was almost no wind except for a 30 minute period where it kicked up, but then died back off.
