The calm before the storm

Saturday August 16th started out like most summer days in Florida. Subtle WSW breeze and a nice light fog. Still trying to get our gameplan for this weekends BassAttack trail tournament my partner an I decided we would launch out of Astatula on little lake Harris and run two boats and check several spots. The bite this morning was almost non existent. The few bites we got were more of a bump or swat, nothing solid. As we put in on the southern most lake in the chain, when we decided that it wasn't consistent enough and it was time to make a move, we made a BIG move. Northward and and several lakes through the chain and we found ourselves on Haines creek, which connects lake Eustis and lake Griffin. This move paid off as we now found clear waters with temps in the low 80,s. Now, as the old adage goes, we were cooking with peanut oil. We found solid hookups and multiple schools of Bass looking for some relief from the low to mid 90,s temps on the main lakes. We had found our primary fishing area for the tourney, but as the title reads, there was a calm before the storm. Our move to Haines creek found placed us 3 lakes and 14 miles from the ramp. When the first signs of the storm front heading our way appeared, we packed up and headed out as soon as we could. The winds were now blowing from the west, and that is never a good thing in lake Harris due to the exposure. A slight 5mph breeze can create small white caps, but the winds we were about to hit, those are the ones that send even the larger boats to seek refuge. As we sat, tied up to each other's boats and bridge pylons, we talked about the spots we fished and laid out our game plan. No good pictures of fish were taken but I did get a few if the calm and the Storm. I will report how our tournament plays out for us this coming Sunday, and hopefully have a few pics to go with it. Be safe and tight lines (<>{
